Spider-Man: Brand New Day Claims Domestic Box Office Record

Spider-Man Brand New Day

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has swung into the box office record books. The latest Spider-Man adventure has surpassed 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to become the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.

“The Force Awakens” held the North American record for more than a decade with $936 million. Tom Holland’s latest outing as Spider-Man has now passed that mark, earning $936.773 million after 47 days in theaters.

The next question is whether “Brand New Day” can achieve another unprecedented milestone. No movie has ever generated $1 billion at the domestic box office, although reaching that mark may be difficult without a future re-release.

A Global Box Office Powerhouse

The film has been just as formidable internationally. Sony and Marvel’s “Brand New Day” has earned $2.45 billion worldwide.

That makes it the third-highest-grossing movie of all time. It trails only 2009’s “Avatar” at $2.9 billion and “Avengers: Endgame” at $2.7 billion, while ranking ahead of 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” at $2.3 billion and 1994’s “Titanic” at $2.2 billion.

Records Fall During a Historic Run

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks Holland’s fourth solo film as Peter Parker. Since opening in late July, the movie has shattered box office records at a remarkable pace.

The film debuted with $360 million in North America and $932 million worldwide during its opening weekend. Just six days after its release, it crossed the $1 billion global mark.

“Brand New Day” reached $2 billion after three weekends. That made it the second-fastest movie ever to reach the milestone, behind only 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” which accomplished the feat in 11 days.

More records followed as audiences continued filling theaters. “Brand New Day” became the fastest film to reach $700 million domestically in 13 days, $800 million in 19 days and $900 million in 36 days.

The film is now only the second movie in history to surpass $900 million at the domestic box office. Its latest achievement puts it alone at the top of the North American rankings.

Peter Parker Returns After No Way Home

Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” directed “Brand New Day.” The story follows the events of 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which ended with the entire world forgetting Peter Parker.

That cliffhanger fueled massive anticipation for the sequel. Audiences wanted to see the consequences of Peter’s decision and discover where his life would go next.

Another major mystery involved Sadie Sink’s role in the film. Fans now know the answer: Sink plays Jean Grey.

Strong initial demand helped deliver the movie’s enormous opening. Enthusiastic word of mouth then gave “Brand New Day” the staying power needed to continue breaking records weeks into its theatrical run.

Marvel Builds Momentum Toward Avengers: Doomsday

The success gives Marvel a major box office victory following a difficult 2025. The studio faced commercial disappointments that year with films including “Captain America: Brave New World” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”

Marvel will try to carry the momentum from “Spider-Man 4” into Disney’s “Avengers: Doomsday.” The ensemble film is scheduled to arrive in December and will reunite a massive collection of Marvel superheroes.

The movie will also bring Robert Downey Jr. back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a dramatically different role. Instead of returning as Iron Man, Downey will appear as the villain Doctor Doom.
