Vampirella has faced death, rebirth, and battles that pushed her to the edge. This November, writer Tom Sniegoski continues his three-decade run with the Daughter of Drakulon in the new series Vampirella: Paradise.
Sniegoski reunites with artist Edu Menna for the next chapter in his long-running Vampirella continuity. The new story picks up after the events of Vampirella Armageddon, which put the raven-haired anti-heroine through one of her greatest struggles.
Paradise Comes With a Price
At the end of Vampirella Armageddon, Almighty God bestowed a remarkable gift upon Vampirella. She now finds herself living in what appears to be a dreamlike paradise, but the new world is not what it seems.
Familiar enemies soon return to threaten that peace. The Mad God of Chaos and the Blood Red Queen of Hearts begin haunting and corrupting Vampirella’s new reality.
Vampirella must uncover the darkness hiding beneath the surface. Her search for answers will once again force her into battle.
A New Direction After Armageddon
Sniegoski is approaching Paradise from a different perspective following the apocalyptic events of Armageddon. That story centered on a final battle between light and darkness while bringing several long-running themes and plot threads full circle.
Many of those ideas stretched back to Sniegoski’s earliest Vampirella stories from the 1990s. With Paradise, he begins with a much different question: What happens if Vampirella finally catches a break?
The answer will not be simple. Her apparent paradise creates a new mystery and gives Sniegoski another direction to explore after decades of writing the character.
Tom Sniegoski Reflects on Three Decades With Vampirella
Sniegoski said his long relationship with Vampirella has become an important part of his career. What began as another writing assignment in the 1990s developed into decades of stories and an ongoing connection with the character.
“It always amazes me how much Vampirella I’ve written,” said Tom Sniegoski. “She’s been part of my professional writing career for basically as long as I’ve had a professional writing career! I don’t think I ever really expected to have the kind of relationship that I have with her. Initially, way back when in the nineties, I thought I would write her for a bit, and move on, but the more I wrote her, her world, and the many characters that she interacts with, I found a nearly never-ending source of material. Just when I think I might be done, she pokes me in the brain and says, ‘what if we did this?’ I love the opportunity to come up with new stories to tell about her that continue to excite me, and hopefully excite the fans of the character. I know I’ve said this before, but writing Vampirella brings me great comfort. It’s like slipping into a nice warm sweater on a really cold day.”
His work has made him the most prolific creator in Vampirella’s history. Paradise continues that relationship while opening another chapter in the character’s long-running story.
Artists Bring Vampirella’s New World to Life
Edu Menna returns to provide the interior artwork for the new series. A lineup of artists and creators will also contribute covers for the November launch.
Francesco Mattina returns to Vampirella and leads the cover lineup with a series of framed designs. Longtime Vampirella artist Joseph Michael Linsner also contributes a cover.
Artist Josephine Tomarchio makes her Dynamite debut with the series. Cosplayer Lauren Delorean will also appear on a cover for the new release.
Collectors will have another option through a mystery blind bag release. The blind bags will include opportunities to find rarer versions of the covers along with additional surprises.
Vampirella Returns This November
Vampirella: Paradise launches this November with Sniegoski and Menna continuing the character’s latest saga. After surviving Armageddon, Vampirella may finally have found paradise, but her oldest enemies are already working to turn it into something far more dangerous.
