Warner Bros. has moved several major films on its release calendar, including J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sci-fi fantasy movie The Great Beyond. The changes have pushed Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman Part II into 2028.
‘The Great Beyond’ Takes October 2027
The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, will now open on Oct. 1, 2027. The film had previously been scheduled for Nov. 13.
That move displaced The Batman Part II, which had occupied the October date. Warner Bros. will now release the DC sequel on Feb. 18, 2028.
Amazon MGM Studios recently offered an early indication that The Great Beyond might leave November. The studio moved its action movie How to Rob a Bank from Labor Day weekend to Nov. 13.
Paramount’s Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol remains scheduled for that date. The movie stars Johnny Depp and is directed by Ti West.
‘Panic Carefully’ and ‘Revenge of La Llorona’ Swap Dates
Warner Bros. also shifted Sam Esmail’s Panic Carefully and New Line’s horror sequel Revenge of La Llorona. The two films have effectively exchanged release dates.
Panic Carefully will move from Feb. 26, 2027, to April 9, 2027. The film will receive an Imax release.
Revenge of La Llorona had previously been scheduled for April 9. It will now arrive earlier on Feb. 26.
Paramount already has movies scheduled for both Feb. 26 and April 9. The Warner Bros. releases could therefore compete directly with films from the studio’s potential future parent company.
Paramount Deal Remains Delayed
The release changes come as Paramount’s proposed acquisition of the 103-year-old Warner Bros. remains delayed. The deal faces several antitrust lawsuits, including challenges from the attorneys general of California, New York, and 10 other states.
The Paramount-Warner Bros. merger had previously been expected to close by fall 2026. The ongoing legal challenges have created uncertainty around that timeline.
‘The Batman Part II’ Targets Presidents Day Weekend
Reeves announced the new release date for The Batman Part II on social media. The film will now open during the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend.
Several major superhero movies have found success during that period. Previous Presidents Day releases include Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Captain America: Brave New World.
Production on The Batman Part II was delayed by five months. The February 2028 release will also give Reeves additional time to complete post-production.
The sequel will retain access to Imax screens on its new date. Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will return as Batman, Alfred, and Penguin, respectively.
The cast will also feature Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch. Warner Bros. has not revealed details about their roles.
A Crowded February 2028
The Batman Part II will face competition when it reaches theaters. Disney has already scheduled an untitled movie for Presidents Day weekend in 2028.
Sony will also release Grandgear, an original action sci-fi feature from Godzilla Minus One filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki. The three films are currently set to open during the same holiday period.
