Witchblade/Vampirella #1 is bringing two of comics’ most recognizable heroines together for a major crossover event this summer.
Writer Marguerite Bennett, known for Odin, Bombshells, and Batwoman, joins forces with fan-favorite artist Laura Braga for the new one-shot from Image Comics and Top Cow Productions.
The first crossover issue arrives in August. A second one-shot, Vampirella/Witchblade #1, will follow in September from Dynamite Entertainment.
That second installment comes from writer Erica Schultz and artist Valentina Pinti.
Publishers Promise High-Stakes Storytelling
Matt Hawkins, President and COO of Top Cow Productions, said the crossover pushes both characters into dangerous territory.
“This is the kind of crossover that only works when everyone leans in, creatively and as partners,” Hawkins said. “You’ve got two iconic characters, two publishers, and a story that doesn’t play it safe. It puts Sara and Vampirella on a collision course where trust is fragile and the consequences are permanent.”
Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment, said the project marks the return of a partnership fans have waited years to see again.
“It’s been over 20 years since Witchblade and Vampirella teamed up,” Barrucci said. “The previous stories were fantastic, and we needed the right creators to ensure that we were bringing even more compelling stories to the fans. Working hand-in-hand with Top Cow, we were able to do just that. These stories will excite fans and we can’t wait to get these stories into fans’ hands.”
Sara Pezzini Faces a Deadly New Threat
The first one-shot centers on Detective Sara Pezzini, who finds herself facing a terrifying new enemy.
Sara has dealt with supernatural horrors before, but a mutated vampire pushes her further than ever. The creature tears through the city, leaving bloodshed and chaos behind.
As the situation spirals out of control, help arrives from the legendary vampire hunter Vampirella. The alliance may not last long, however. Sara has already been infected by the monster’s bite, and time is quickly running out.
The story raises a dangerous question: will Vampirella save Sara, or destroy her before the infection spreads?
Bennett Teases a Wild Team-Up
Bennett described the crossover as a perfect match for both characters and creators.
“Witchblade and Vampirella go together like me and Laura Braga,” Bennett said. “Our story is fun, sexy, ferocious, and full of monstrosity. Times are tough and everyone deserves a treat, including Sara Pezzini and Vampirella.”
Witchblade/Vampirella #1 arrives in comic book shops on Wednesday, August 26.
