Fourth Wing

Fourth Wing is officially heading to Prime Video.

Amazon MGM Studios announced a series adaptation of the hit fantasy novels during its annual Upfront presentation in New York City. The project is based on The Empyrean, the best-selling book franchise from author Rebecca Yarros.

The first novel follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who is forced by her mother to enter the brutal Basgiath War College. There, she joins hundreds of candidates competing to become Navarre’s elite dragon riders.

Meredith Averill to Serve as Showrunner

Meredith Averill will adapt the novels for television. She will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Averill previously worked on The Haunting of Hill House and Locke & Key.

Lisa Joy, executive producer of Fallout and co-founder of Kilter Films, will direct the pilot episode.

Joy, Jonathan Nolan, and Athena Wickham will executive produce through Kilter Films. Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will executive produce through Outlier Society. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will executive produce through Premeditated Productions. Yarros also joins the project as an executive producer.

‘Fourth Wing’ Continues to Dominate Publishing

Fourth Wing became a major publishing success and remains a No. 1 New York Times bestseller. The novel launched the ongoing Empyrean series, which continues to attract a large audience across print, digital, and audiobook formats.

Amazon highlighted the franchise’s strong performance across Kindle, Audible, and Kindle Unlimited. Readers can sync eBooks and audiobooks between Kindle and Audible apps without losing their place. Audible users can also follow the text while listening through the app’s integrated reading feature.

More Prime Video Announcements Revealed

Amazon also used the Upfront presentation to announce several other projects and renewals.

The company revealed a premiere date for Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It also renewed Jury Duty and announced a new series starring Brett Goldstein.

Fans looking for more fantasy and book-to-screen adaptations on Prime Video can also stream The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher, and Cross. The upcoming Scarpetta is also part of the platform’s growing lineup.
