Dynamite Entertainment and UDON Entertainment are bringing two horror icons together for the first time. Vampirella will face the supernatural fighters of Capcom’s Darkstalkers in a new comic book crossover launching this fall.
The series pairs the Daughter of Drakulon with Morrigan, the popular succubus from Capcom’s long-running fighting game franchise. Their encounter will send both characters into a dangerous chase across New York City.
Vampirella Hunts a Dangerous Succubus
Vampirella is tracking a soul-sucking succubus whose behavior differs from that of Earth’s supernatural creatures. Her investigation soon leads her to Morrigan, princess of the demon realm known as Makai.
Morrigan has been avoiding her royal responsibilities and slipping away to Earth. She spends her visits feeding on the dreams and souls of unsuspecting humans.
The two women become locked in a cat-and-mouse game throughout New York City. They also recognize their surprising similarities as vampire-like outsiders trying to exist among humans.
Their conflict becomes even more dangerous when another hunter enters the chase. Baby Bonnie Hood, the notorious monster hunter also known as B.B. Hood, is tracking them both.
Tim Seeley Leads the Creative Team
Tim Seeley will write the historic Vampirella vs. Darkstalkers crossover. His horror credits include Hack/Slash, Revival and Chaos!, while his mainstream work includes Nightwing, X-Force and Godzilla.
Rising artist Drax Gal will provide the interior artwork. The UDON artist brings a style that blends Western comic book storytelling with manga influences.
“I love crossovers, which I’m sure doesn’t surprise anyone,” Seeley said. “And I especially love ones that can unexpectedly delight, and come out of nowhere.”
“Vampi vs Morrigan is all of those things, with the added bonus of being sexy, and drawn by Drax Gal,” he continued. “It’s vampiress anti-heroines from games, comics, modern and retro, mashing it up with lots of teeth and skin.”
Cover Artists Showcase the Horror Icons
The crossover will feature covers from several prominent artists. The lineup includes Lucio Parrillo, Francesco Mattina, Björn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner and Drax Gal.
Collectors can also purchase a limited-edition mystery blind bag. Each package will offer surprise artwork and the chance to find rare variant covers.
Darkstalkers Brings More Than 30 Years of Horror Action
The Darkstalkers franchise has entertained fighting game fans for more than 30 years. Capcom’s series combines classic horror monsters with stylized action, detailed mythology and distinctive character designs.
Morrigan and B.B. Hood are the only Darkstalkers characters confirmed for the story so far. However, Felicia, Lilith, Jon Talbain and Victor von Gerdenheim also appear on several covers.
Additional characters may appear as the crossover unfolds. Readers will have to follow the series to discover which Darkstalkers fighters enter the story.
Vampirella’s Horror Legacy Continues
Vampirella made her comic book debut in 1969 and has remained a major figure in horror publishing for more than five decades. Her earliest stories featured contributions from influential comics, horror and fantasy creators, including Frank Frazetta, Forrest J. Ackerman, Trina Robbins and Tom Sutton.
The character began as the host of anthology stories before becoming the star of her own adventures. She later emerged as a leading figure in the “bad girls” comics trend and has been guided by some of the industry’s most respected writers and artists.
Vampirella vs. Darkstalkers will bring that publishing legacy together with one of gaming’s most recognizable supernatural franchises. The crossover arrives this fall from Dynamite Entertainment and UDON Entertainment.
