‘Toy Story 5’ Heads For Year’s Biggest Opening

Toy Story 5

Disney and Pixar delivered a major box office gift with Toy Story 5. The animated sequel is heading toward a $160 million domestic opening, the biggest launch of 2026 so far.

Internationally, the film is pulling in $152 million. That gives Toy Story 5 a projected global start of $312 million.

The domestic number puts it ahead of The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie, which opened to $130.9 million over three days in April. That film opened two days early for the Easter holidays and posted a five-day total of $190.1 million.

A Franchise Record for Toy Story

Toy Story 5 also set a new franchise benchmark. It topped the $120.9 million launch of Toy Story 4 in 2019.

Audiences responded strongly as well. The film earned an A CinemaScore.

Toy Story veteran Andrew Stanton directs the film. Kenna Harris co-directs.

Disclosure Day Drops in Its Second Weekend

Steven Spielberg and Universal’s original sci-fi feature Disclosure Day is seeing a sharp second-weekend drop. The film is falling 62 percent and is expected to earn around $17 million.

It opened to $44 million last weekend. By the end of this weekend, Disclosure Day should reach about $78.2 million domestically and $160.4 million worldwide.

Obsession Keeps Pulling Crowds

Focus Features’ box office sensation Obsession continues its strong run in its sixth weekend.

The film is expected to earn around $14 million. That marks the first time its weekend gross will fall below its $17.2 million opening.

Obsession should end the weekend with about $215 million domestically. It already became Focus Features’ No. 1 movie of all time both domestically and globally. Worldwide, it has passed $300 million.

Backrooms Holds Strong for A24

A24’s Backrooms continues to bring in business after launching in May.

The film is pulling in $7.3 million this weekend. That brings its domestic total to $175.1 million and its global total to $301 million.

New Releases Enter the Market

New titles also joined the weekend lineup.

Neon’s horror feature Leviticus is looking to bring in around $3 million. The well-regarded Sundance horror title entered theaters with strong genre interest.

A24’s The Death of Robin Hood, starring Hugh Jackman, is eyeing around $2.6 million. Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, is behind the project. The film tells the story of Robin Hood’s later days.

Scary Movie Passes a Global Milestone

Paramount’s Scary Movie also hit a milestone. The film passed $200 million globally after adding $6.7 million domestically this weekend.

The top 12 movies of the weekend, as of Sunday, June 21, are as follows.
