Oni Press is turning up the volume with SUPERPUNK. The new graphic novel stars Violeta, a thirteen-year-old podcaster and skateboarder who discovers the punk power to fight monsters.
A Hero with Attitude
Arriving in May 2026, SUPERPUNK comes from award-winning artist Guilherme Petreca and children’s TV writer Mirtes Santana. It’s a story about rebellion, friendship, and finding your voice.
Violeta finds her grandfather’s old cassette player. Out of curiosity — and a little rebellion — she plays a tape backward. The result? Magic powers. And monsters. Lots of them.
With her best friend and podcast co-host Alan, Violeta must protect her hometown, Hollow Hills. But balancing homework, skating, and saving the day isn’t easy. When the monsters invade her school, it’s up to this “superpunk” to fight back.
A Punk Mixtape in Comic Form
“We wanted to make a comic that feels like a punk mixtape — loud, full of heart, and driving you to the last beat,” said Mirtes Santana. “SUPERPUNK is a love letter to everyone who blasted music, skipped homework, and believed in the fearless spirit of youth.”
“When monsters attack the city, only one power trio can save the day,” said Guilherme Petreca. “Grab your cassette player, wear your mask, and get ready to rock. SUPERPUNK is here to shake things up.”
Skater Girl Energy
“Move over Powerpuff Girls and Kim Possible,” said Senior Editor Grace Scheipeter. “Violeta brings a skater-girl edge to a new generation of heroes. It’s action-packed, it’s retro, and it’s fueled by bands like Bikini Kill, the Ramones, and The Pixies.”
Turn Up the Volume
SUPERPUNK is fast, fun, and full of energy. It’s rebellion with heart — a mix of music, magic, and courage. Created by Mirtes Santana and Guilherme Petreca, this middle-grade adventure hits shelves in May 2026. Get ready to turn it up loud.
