Storm King Comics’ ‘Fetch: Book One: The Journey’ Middle-Grade Graphic Novel To Hit Shelves On February 8

Fetch

Storm King Comics announced that the publishing house’s middle-grade graphic novel FETCH: BOOK ONE: THE JOURNEY will become available for purchase on February 8, 2023. The Greek mythological fantasy story will be published under the John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids imprint, led by CEO Sandy King Carpenter and creative partner/husband John Carpenter, also famous for respectively producing and directing iconic horror films such as They Live and In the Mouth of Madness together

Scribed by Mike Sizemore and illustrated by artist Dave Kennedy (John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction: Vortex, John Carpenter’s Tales For a HalloweeNight), with colors by Pete Kennedy and letters by Janice Chiang (Superman Smashes the Klan), Fetch: Book One: The Journey kicks off the 2023 slate of the John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids imprint. The release coincides with the 10th anniversary of Storm King Comics, the first comic book publishing company to be founded by a woman, producing legend Sandy King Carpenter.

Fetch: Book One: The Journey follows 12-year-old Danni, who is struggling to get over the loss of her dog, Pirate. At school, a friendly new teacher lends her an old school book that reveals to her the world of Greek mythology. Intrigued by the stories, Danni devours the book, stumbling across an illustration that looks familiar…She leaves the house in the dead of night, seeking out what she thinks could be the gate to Hades, the Greek Underworld, and perhaps a way to bring her dog back to the land of the living.

What Danni didn’t expect was that her younger brother, Sammy, would sneakily follow her to tag along or that once in the Underworld she’d need a guide…her pick being the legendary Odysseus. On the flip side, two 21st century kids on a quest to save their dead dog was the last thing Odysseus was expecting. Adventuring in the Underworld since the fall of Troy, Odysseus is the last of his kind, a true Hero. But with enemies leaping on them at every turn and monsters and gods to overcome, this may be his toughest odyssey yet!

John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids is the home of award-winning middle-grade and YA titles such as the Eisner-nominated Stanley’s Ghost (2021), and The Grimms Town Terror Tales: Rise Of The Candy Creeper, chosen for a Foreword Indie Fab Award Honorable Mention in 2021. Other books in the imprint include spooky Halloween kitten adventure The Yard Gang, horrifying monster thriller Sacred Hearts, dystopian sci-fi tale Hyperbreed, and transformative YA horror series Monica Bleue: a Werewolf Story. More information on the Storm Kids imprint can be found on Storm King’s site linked here.

Storm King Comics was founded in 2012 by CEO Sandy King Carpenter. She and husband/creative partner, John Carpenter, released their first comic, Asylum, ten years ago in 2013. With over 100 comic and graphic novel titles published, Storm King has brought together some of the best creators in the world to craft original horror, sci-fi, and fantasy tales. Sandy King Carpenter has utilized her extensive background in entertainment—as a horror film producer and professional—to build a successful comic book company from the ground up. She has shepherded Fetch throughout the creative process, working hand-in-hand with writer Mike Sizemore, artist Dave Kennedy, and managing editor Sean Sobczak.

“Editing a story by Mike Sizemore is always an adventure in and of itself. He has a worldview that takes me on a journey even when I’m in the process of evaluating, proofing and supporting the work as it evolves. We’re an open team, sharing ideas from concept through rough draft and layouts. Dave Kennedy, the artist, shares a brain with Mike, his longtime collaborator, and really brings the characters to life. And Dave’s brother, Pete, is brilliant with the colors. Sean Sobczak, our managing editor, keeps everything running smoothly and then our letter artist, Janice Chiang, comes in and brings the final hit of magic.”

Fetch: Book One: The Journey will be available Feb 8th at comic shops and digitally online at GlobalComix. It will be available at book stores Feb 21st.
