Star Trek Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to return with its fourth season on July 23. The announcement came Saturday during a panel at CCXP Mexico.

The new season will include 10 episodes. Paramount+ will release them weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 24. The series last aired its season three finale in September.

Cast Takes the Stage

Cast members Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley revealed the premiere date and debuted the first teaser trailer before a packed audience.

Anson Mount leads the series as Capt. Christopher Pike. The ensemble also includes Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Martin Quinn, and Carol Kane.

A Message of Optimism

Wesley spoke about the franchise’s lasting appeal. “It’s a form of escapism,” he said. “It’s a form of us believing in that kind of future.”

Fans responded loudly throughout the panel, especially when Wesley spoke or referenced The Vampire Diaries. He joked about the reaction, saying, “I’ve got to come to Mexico City more often.”

First Look at Season Four

The teaser offered a glimpse of what lies ahead. La’An Noonien-Singh, played by Chong, warns Nyota Uhura, played by Gooding, “Any of these missions could be our last.”

The footage closes with James T. Kirk, played by Wesley, delivering the franchise’s signature line. “Let’s boldly go.”

Wesley added a personal note on stage. “I’m just flattered that they’re premiering it on my birthday. Of course, that’s on purpose.”

What to Expect This Season

Romijn expressed confidence in the new episodes. “We’re so proud of this show, and we’re really proud of season four and season five. We really think it’s our best season yet.” She also teased a surprising element. “There’s dinosaurs!”

Wesley hinted at deeper character work. “We explore a little about Kirk’s past and the demons that are haunting him.”

He also praised William Shatner for publicly supporting his take on Kirk. “It was such a lovely, beautiful passing of the baton,” Wesley said. “William Shatner did not have to do that. I thought that was so incredibly generous of him and very classy.”

Gooding highlighted Uhura’s evolution. “She talks back,” she said. “She stands up for herself. I think we’re getting closer and closer to Nichelle Nichols’ Uhura.”

Looking Ahead to the Final Season

Production has already wrapped on the show’s fifth and final season. The upcoming season will introduce two legacy characters from the original Star Trek.

Thomas Jane will play Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, and Kai Murakami will portray Hikaru Sulu.

The first three seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are currently streaming on Paramount+.
