Lorenzo de Felici’s supernatural mystery Red Roots is getting its first collected edition. Image Comics will release Red Roots, Vol. 1 this fall, collecting issues #1-5 of the ongoing series.
De Felici, the superstar artist behind Oblivion Song, Void Rivals, and Kroma, makes his breakout writing debut with the genre-defying series. The new trade paperback brings together the opening chapters of a mystery built around dark fantasy, supernatural forces, and unexpected revelations.
A Mystery With a Dangerous Connection
Red Roots centers on a puzzle-box mystery that evokes The Mist, while introducing an explosive genre twist in the spirit of The Cabin in the Woods and Oblivion Song. At the heart of the story are a professional killer and a high school teacher whose lives become connected by a terrifying and mysterious force.
Each chapter pushes the mystery further. Readers are drawn deeper into a world filled with dark fantasy lore, hidden connections, and plot-twisting revelations.
From ‘Oblivion Song’ to ‘Void Rivals’
De Felici first rose to prominence with Oblivion Song, which he co-created with Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible and The Walking Dead. He later teamed with Kirkman again as the artist on Void Rivals, one of the tentpole titles of the Energon Universe.
Their collaboration helped launch the Energon Universe toward sales-chart dominance. Void Rivals became one of the biggest launches of 2024 and has reached its 12th reprint, with momentum continuing around the series.
That success has placed even more attention on de Felici’s move into writing. Red Roots now stands as one of the year’s most notable new developments in comics as he expands his creative role beyond the artwork that established his reputation.
When ‘Red Roots, Vol. 1’ Arrives
Red Roots, Vol. 1 will arrive at comic book shops and on digital platforms on Wednesday, October 21. The trade paperback will then reach bookstores on Tuesday, November 17.
The collection includes Red Roots #1-5. It gives readers the complete opening arc of de Felici’s ongoing supernatural mystery in one volume.
