Acclaimed writer Tyler Boss and fan-favorite artist Dylan Burnett are teaming up for a new Exquisite Corpses spinoff. The five-issue limited series, Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy, will explore the origin of the franchise’s most unsettling character. The series is produced by Tiny Onion and arrives this July from Image Comics.
Boss, known for You’ll Do Bad Things and What’s the Furthest Place from Here?, shared his enthusiasm for the character. “From the moment I saw the full cast of killers for Exquisite Corpses, I knew Randy would be the winner,” he said. “While I still can’t confirm that, I can say the story Dylan and I created is as sweet and cuddly as a porcupine.”
Burnett added a sharp contrast in tone. “Bullies, homework, crushes, and solving brutal murders by a weirdo in a rabbit costume. Ah, to be young again.”
The Origin of a Killer Mascot
The story centers on Aurora Springs, New York, a quiet town with a dark legacy. It is the birthplace of Rascal Randy. Not the man behind the mask, but the character itself.
Before the costume, the man was insignificant. Everything changed the moment he put on the mascot head. That was when he discovered something far more dangerous than identity. He discovered control.
Rascal Randy was once meant to be a beloved animated figure. Greed and tragedy reshaped that future. Now, the series reveals how he became New Jersey’s entry in America’s deadliest game.
Expanding the Exquisite Corpses Universe
The Exquisite Corpses franchise continues to grow. Alongside Rascal Randy, two additional spinoff series are in development: Fox Mask Killer and Lone Gunman. An anthology one-shot, Book of the Dead, is also on the way. These projects join a planned second season, a feature film adaptation, and a tabletop card game.
Rascal Randy recently appeared at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, where he posed with fans in full costume. The character stayed true to form, playfully mimicking his signature strangling move.
Collectible Covers and Creative Team
The debut issue features variant covers from top artists, including Javier Pulido, Riley Rossmo, Brett Bean, and Michael Walsh. Walsh’s edition will be polybagged with a trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game, which he co-created with Tiny Onion. The game launches on Kickstarter this May.
Colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Becca Carey round out the creative team.
Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1 hits comic shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, July 8.
