Image Comics brings back the debut issue of “Radiant Black” in a new black-and-white one-shot to mark the series’ fifth anniversary. The release strips the first issue down to Marcelo Costa’s raw inks, giving fans a clean look at the artwork that launched the Massive-Verse. Radiant Black & White arrives in February 2026.
Anniversary Edition Features New Cover and Full Script
The special edition features new cover art by David Finch. It also includes the full script to issue #1, which has never been released before.
Higgins Reflects on the Milestone
“Five years of Radiant Black—that’s a wild milestone to wrap my head around,” said writer Kyle Higgins. “This series has meant so much to me, and I’m immensely proud of what our team has built. Radiant Black and White #1 is a chance to revisit where it all began in a really intimate way, showcasing Marcelo’s stunning line art and the original script for issue one. I’m thrilled we get to present the comic in this format and celebrate how far the story—and our readers—have taken us.”
The Origin of Radiant Black
The original first issue introduces Nathan Burnett, a 30-year-old who hits rock bottom. He works two dead-end jobs, drowns in debt, and moves back in with his parents. That changes when he discovers the cosmic force known as the Radiant. The power gives him a shot at redemption, but it also puts him in danger. The beings who created the Radiant want it back, and they will stop at nothing to reclaim it.
Radiant Black & White (one-shot) hits comic shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
