Bestselling creators Tony Fleecs and Tim Seeley are joining forces for a new horror-comedy series with a fairy-tale twist. The Princess Murders launches this December from Image Comics and blends dark humor, satire, and campy slasher horror.
Fleecs, known for Stray Dogs and Feral, reunites with Seeley, the creator behind Revival and Hack/Slash. Together, they are turning familiar fairy-tale imagery into a bloody whodunnit built around wicked relatives, magical allies, and a killer on the loose.
A Fairy-Tale Murder Mystery
At the center of The Princess Murders is a dead princess and an unlikely pair of investigators. Her wicked stepsister and fairy Godmother must work together to uncover the identity of the killer.
The series takes familiar fairy-tale concepts and runs them through the language of horror. Think Snow White slasher, Sleeping Beauty giallo, and the self-aware humor of films such as Enchanted and Barbie pushed into a darker, bloodier world.
Fleecs Found the Hook in an Unlikely Mashup
Fleecs said the idea emerged after he and Seeley struggled to settle on their next collaboration. Everything changed when Seeley combined two genres Fleecs already loved.
“Tim and I knew we wanted to make another series together, we just couldn’t land on what that would be,” said Fleecs. “We bounced around a bunch of ideas and nothing really sparked until Tim manipulated me by just smooshing two of my favorite things together. He said, ‘What if we did an Animated Princess Giallo?’ Immediately I saw what this could be and, just like when I had the idea for Stray Dogs, I knew Tim and I were specifically the people who had to make this book—the guy who made Hack/Slash and the guy from Stray Dogs? With colors by the genius colorist behind Marvel’s Spinstress? That’s who you want making your Animated Princess Slasher comic.”
That combination gives the project a clear creative identity from the start. Fleecs brings the visual wit and genre awareness of Stray Dogs and Feral, while Seeley adds his experience with slasher horror and character-driven storytelling.
Built for Horror Fans and Easter-Egg Hunters
The Princess Murders is positioned as one of Image Comics’ high-profile new launches heading into the end of 2026. The series also gives Fleecs another opportunity to tap into the kind of fan engagement that helped fuel interest in Stray Dogs and Feral.
The concept opens the door to easter eggs, homage variants, character cameos, and innuendo. Its mix of humor and horror should also appeal to readers and viewers who enjoy D’orc, I Hate Fairyland, Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees, Chew, Dexter, Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, Shaun of The Dead, and What We Do in The Shadows.
Seeley Promises Affection and Twisted Ideas
Seeley said the series reflects both creators’ complicated affection for fairy-tale animation and slasher mysteries. He also teased the warped ideas that come from combining those influences.

That mix of parody, horror, and mystery gives the series room to play with expectations. The result is a fractured fairy tale built around murder, satire, and a knowingly campy approach to genre storytelling.
The Princess Murders #1 will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, December 9. The new series will close out 2026 with its animated-princess-meets-slasher premise before continuing into 2027.
