Writer Jim Zub is returning to creator-owned fantasy with Omen-Bound, a new ongoing series from Image Comics. The project teams the Conan the Barbarian and Dungeons & Dragons writer with acclaimed Letter 44 artist Alberto J. Alburquerque.
The dark fantasy series will launch in March 2027. It introduces readers to the dangerous world of The Untaken Lands and a journey that could reshape its future.
New York Comic Con Offers an Early Look
Image Comics will begin promoting Omen-Bound at this year’s New York Comic Con. A limited run of black-and-white Omen-Bound Preview Edition copies will give readers an early look at the series’ core characters and the perilous world they inhabit.
The preview editions will be available on a first come, first served basis. Fans can find them at Artist Alley tables I-33 and A-33.
A Dangerous Journey Through The Untaken Lands
In Omen-Bound, a skilled group of warriors and priests belongs to a strict religious order. Their mission is to escort a dangerous supernatural prisoner back to their realm beyond reality.
The journey quickly becomes more complicated than expected. Each step tests the group while exposing secrets about themselves and the history of their world that could ultimately save or damn them all.
The series combines classic sword and sorcery with intense emotional stakes. Its creators compare that approach to comics such as The Walking Dead, mixing character-driven drama with fantasy adventure.
The story is designed for longtime fantasy readers as well as newcomers to the genre. Alburquerque’s artwork brings the journey to life with epic action, supernatural danger, and unexpected twists.
Zub Returns to Creator-Owned Fantasy
For Zub, Omen-Bound offers an opportunity to explore fantasy concepts and characters that did not fit into the established worlds where he has previously worked.
“I absolutely love writing stories in the many fantasy realms that sparked my imagination as a kid,” said Zub. “But I’ve always had concepts that didn’t fit there, other themes I wanted to explore and new characters I wanted to put through the wringer, so it’s time to bring those ideas to life. Getting the chance to return to Image and team up with Alberto, colorist Misty Coats, and letterer Marshall Dillon on this epic quest feels like both a homecoming and the start of something special.”
The creative team also includes colorist Misty Coats and letterer Marshall Dillon. Together, the group is building an original fantasy world centered on danger, mystery, and the consequences of a seemingly straightforward mission.
Alburquerque Embraces the New Series
Alburquerque said he quickly connected with the project after Zub shared his initial ideas. The artist described Omen-Bound as a passion project and said he is putting that enthusiasm into every page.
“When Jim said he had a new project he was developing, I was in from the start. When he said what it was about and sent me his first notes, I knew I’d hit the jackpot. This is a true passion project and I’m giving it my all on every page!”
Omen-Bound #1 will launch in March 2027. The first issue will be available through comic book shops and digital platforms.
