Morgan Spector is stepping into the world of Dan Brown. The Gilded Age star will play Brown’s signature character, Robert Langdon, in a new Netflix series based on the 2025 novel The Secret of Secrets.
Netflix Brings Robert Langdon Back to the Screen
Spector has signed on to lead the currently untitled series, which comes from co-creators Brown and Carlton Cuse. Cuse, whose credits include Jack Ryan and Lost, will also serve as showrunner.
Netflix won a bidding war for the series in May 2025. The deal came several months before The Secret of Secrets was published.
Cuse praised Spector as an ideal choice to take on the role of the renowned symbologist. He pointed to the actor’s ability to bring intelligence and humanity to his performances.
“Morgan is a truly wonderful actor whose work is always filled with intelligence, thoughtfulness and humanity,” Cuse said in a statement. “He’s the perfect fit for Robert Langdon — a brilliant academic whose curiosity, intelligence and intellect are the tools of his trade.”
Science and Mysticism Drive the New Story
The Secret of Secrets once again puts Langdon at the center of a high-stakes mystery. This time, the story combines questions about the human mind with ancient forces, futuristic science and mystical lore.
Netflix describes the series this way: “In Dan Brown’s thrilling novel, symbologist Robert Langdon races against ancient forces and time to rescue a missing scientist and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind. The series adaptation will blend futuristic science with mystical lore, delivering on the heart-pounding suspense and international intrigue that has made the Langdon stories a global phenomenon.”
The adaptation continues Netflix’s expansion into high-profile literary properties. It also gives Brown’s best-known character another opportunity to reach audiences through television.
Spector Becomes the Third Robert Langdon
Spector will become the third actor to portray Robert Langdon on screen. Tom Hanks previously played the character in three films based on Brown’s books.
Ashley Zukerman later took over the role for Peacock’s 2021 series The Lost Symbol. That series served as a prequel and followed a younger version of Langdon earlier in his career.
Now Spector will bring his own interpretation to the character as Netflix launches the next chapter of the Robert Langdon franchise. The Secret of Secrets will introduce Langdon to a new mystery built around science, ancient knowledge and discoveries that could change humanity’s understanding of the mind.
