Critically acclaimed cartoonist Katia Vecchio, known for Silver Vessels and Painted, makes her Image Comics debut with the original graphic novel Memories of Giselle. The powerful coming-of-age story arrives in July 2026.
A Story of Memory, Silence, and Survival
Memories of Giselle unfolds with quiet inevitability. A brother and sister navigate a childhood shaped by hidden abuse, silence, and loss. Giselle remains haunted by the memory of her late grandmother and by a single recurring image of an empty boat. It becomes a symbol of a truth she has spent years repressing.
As Giselle enters adolescence, she confronts desire, vulnerability, and trust. The fractured pieces of her past begin to fall into place. A long-buried story emerges, along with the shadow it continues to cast over her life and her brother’s.
Exploring Trauma and Resilience
The graphic novel offers a compassionate look at memory and psychological wounds. It examines the quiet bravery required to reclaim a life shaped by trauma.
“Memories of Giselle is the story I needed to tell in order to give shape to experiences that often remain unspoken,” said Vecchio. “My hope is that readers will find, in Giselle’s journey, the courage to look at their own pain with compassion, and to understand that acceptance begins with acknowledging what we’ve had to carry.”
Memories of Giselle will be available in trade paperback at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. It arrives in bookstores on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
