Fan-favorite writer Aditya Bidikar (The Department of Truth, Blue In Green) teams with rising star artist SOM (Crocodile Black) for a dark new take on celebrity culture, identity, and image. Their standalone graphic novel, In Your Skin, brings Cronenbergian body horror to Image Comics this Fall.
When Admiration Becomes Obsession
In Your Skin follows Priyanka, a lifelong Bollywood superfan who has idolized film star Ayesha Sen since childhood. She has watched Ayesha’s movies again and again and knows her dances beat for beat.
Everything changes when Priyanka gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet her idol. The encounter goes awry, and Ayesha soon announces her impending retirement from movies.
Priyanka’s admiration quickly turns into obsession. If Ayesha no longer wants to live her seemingly perfect life, Priyanka would be more than happy to take it for herself.
A Dark Look at Identity and Celebrity
The graphic novel explores what happens when fandom crosses a dangerous line. It uses body horror to examine celebrity culture, personal identity, and the power of image.
In Your Skin is aimed at readers drawn to films such as The Substance and Black Swan. It should also appeal to fans of Mona Awad’s Rouge and Patricia Highsmith thrillers such as The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The In Your Skin trade paperback collects issues #1-4 and presents the complete miniseries in one volume. It will arrive at comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, October 28.
The paperback will reach bookstores on Tuesday, November 24. Readers will be able to experience the full story without waiting between issues.
