Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, have announced a new Kickstarter campaign for G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Compendium Sets 1 + 2. The campaign introduces Kickstarter-exclusive hardcover collections that expand on one of the most successful comic crowdfunding projects of all time.
Eight Volumes. Three Decades of History.
The new compendium sets span eight volumes and collect more than 300 issues of G.I. JOE: A Real American Herofrom both the Marvel and IDW eras, covering stories published between 1994 and 2022. Each volume features new key art by legendary artist Andy Kubert (X-Men).
The project builds on Skybound’s previous G.I. Joe Kickstarter, which shattered crowdfunding records and drew worldwide attention.
Campaign Details and Launch Date
Fans can sign up now at GIJoeKickstarter.com to receive updates ahead of the campaign launch. The Kickstarter goes live Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 6 a.m. PT.
Skybound has also released a new campaign teaser video highlighting the scope and presentation of the collections.
Larry Hama’s Definitive Run Collected
The compendiums spotlight the iconic work of series writer Larry Hama (Wolverine), alongside an all-star roster of artists. Together, the volumes chronicle the clash between G.I. Joe and Cobra across some of the most influential stories in franchise history.
The collections include major arcs such as Cobra Commander’s near-total world domination and the introduction of Dawn Moreno, the new Snake Eyes. For the first time, readers can experience the first 300 issues in a consistent hardcover format, complete with covers and exclusive bonus material.
“I am really glad that there will finally be a quality compendium of the continuation of my run on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero beyond the initial Marvel run and into the IDW issues,” said Hama. “This will be the first time that a uniform hard-bound edition will be produced that includes the first 300 issues, along with covers and many exclusive extras. A real must for loyal fans and completists.”
New Volumes for Returning Backers
Fans who backed the original compendium campaign can select new tiers to purchase the latest hardcover set. These volumes collect issues #155½ through #300, along with annuals, specials, and additional material.
As before, backers must choose a side. Will you stand with G.I. Joe or align with Cobra? Either way, the deluxe hardcovers are designed to sit seamlessly alongside the original compendium set.
Exclusive Rewards and Premium Editions
The campaign offers a wide range of Kickstarter-exclusive rewards. These include signed Larry Hama bookplates, faux leather hardcovers, spot gloss, foil finishes, gilded edges, satin ribbon bookmarks, patches, pins, stickers, individual issue reprints, and two art source books featuring imagery from classic trading cards, vehicles, and more.
“Following the massive success of our first G.I. Joe campaign, we’re going bigger and better with the second campaign,” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “These collections are the most comprehensive assembly of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero material ever, and we can’t wait for fans to see what we have planned.”
Skybound’s Crowdfunding Legacy
Skybound continues to dominate comic crowdfunding. The publisher holds records for the most funded comics campaigns on Kickstarter, including The Transformers and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Sets, as well as the most funded webcomic with Ava’s Demon Book Two: Aftermath.

The Future of the Energon Universe
The compendium program remains a cornerstone of Skybound’s ongoing partnership with Hasbro. It complements the continued publication of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero from Hama, with art by Chris Mooneyham and covers by Andy Kubert.
The franchise also expands through the Energon Universe, including Void Rivals by Robert Kirkman and Andrei Bressan, Transformers by Kirkman and Dan Mora, and G.I. Joe by Joshua Williamson with art from Tom Reilly and Andrea Milana.
