Rick Remender and Eric Nguyen are bringing their science-fiction series Gigantic back to readers in a new collected edition. Gigantic: The Complete Series gathers all five issues of the fan-favorite comic in one trade paperback.
Remender, whose credits include Hammerfist, Fear Agent and Escape, reunites with Strange Girl artist Nguyen for the release. The collection will arrive at comic book shops and digital platforms in August before reaching bookstores in September.
A Superhero Trapped in a Reality Show
Gigantic puts a brutal science-fiction spin on the concept behind The Truman Show. The story follows a brainwashed alien superhero who arrives on Earth without realizing he is the star of a nonstop intergalactic reality program.
The series combines superhero action, kaiju-scale destruction and science fiction with a story about fame and spectacle. Its central character must confront both the forces hunting him and the disturbing truth behind his existence.
San Francisco Faces a Gigantic Threat
The story begins on what seems like a perfect spring day in San Francisco. That changes when a towering armored alien tears through the skyline and reduces parts of the city to rubble.
His arrival immediately raises questions about who he is and why he has come to Earth. Otherworldly forces are hunting him, but the reasons behind the pursuit remain unclear.
The mystery grows as the destruction continues. At the center of it all is one question: Why is he so Gigantic?
Remender Revisits One of His Favorite Worlds
Remender said the ideas behind Gigantic remain meaningful nearly two decades after he began developing the series. He also welcomed the opportunity to introduce the story to new readers.
“Still stands as one of my favorite concepts and worlds,” said Remender. “When I began writing it back in 2006 I never would have guessed it would still be so relevant. Excited for a new generation to get to read it.”
Nguyen also expressed enthusiasm about seeing the complete story collected in a single volume. He emphasized that the larger format fits the scale of the series.
“As artist and co-creator I’m thrilled to bring fans this gorgeous all-in-one volume edition of Gigantic,” Nguyen said. “In a story about a giant robot, BIGGER is always BETTER.”
‘Gigantic’ Returns in August
Gigantic: The Complete Series collects issues #1 through #5 in one trade paperback edition. The collection will be available at comic book shops and on digital platforms beginning Wednesday, August 26.
Bookstores will receive the collection on Tuesday, September 22. The release gives longtime fans a chance to revisit the series while introducing Remender and Nguyen’s oversized science-fiction story to a new audience.
