Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, announced the remastered release of Universal Monsters: Dracula Black & White Special #1 (of 2), the acclaimed limited comic book series by writer James Tynion IV (Exquisite Corpses, Something is Killing the Children) and artist Martin Simmonds. The Department of Truth creators present their acclaimed Dracula series in stunning black-and-white, in tribute to the iconic film that changed the face of horror.

Originally unfolding over four suspenseful issues, the miniseries is presented here in double feature format, across two double-length issues coming this October and November.

The first installment plunges readers into the eerie world of Dr. John Seward’s asylum, where a new patient arrives whispering about a demon who has taken residence next door. As Dr. Seward struggles to apply logic to the madness, his surrogate daughter Lucy begins to fall under the dark influence of the twisted Count Dracula!

“Back by popular demand, we’re thrilled to be offering a special black & white presentation of the Universal Monsters project that started it all — James Tynion IV & Martin Simmonds’ DRACULA!” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “Readers will be transported back to the days of classic cinema, and this hefty 2-in-1 printing pairs well with a nice glass of…wine!”

In addition to Dracula himself, this series also features some popular characters from the original film, including R.M. Renfield, Mina Seward, Doctor John Seward, Van Helsing, and more. The series has become known for its fresh twists, chilling encounters, and a dive into the dark corners of these timeless narratives.

Released to overwhelmingly critical acclaim, Universal Monsters: Dracula earned artist Martin Simmonds an Eisner Award nomination for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art). It marked the start of Skybound and Universal Products & Experiences’ Universal Monsters line, and was followed by Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts’ Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!; Michael Walsh’s Frankenstein; and Faith Erin Hick’s The Mummy. It will also be followed by additional new limited series pairing the biggest names in comics with pop culture’s most iconic monsters, including the recently announced Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man by James Tynion IV and DANI, which will debut August 27, 2025.

Universal Monsters: Dracula Black & White Special #1 will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
