DC Studios and HBO Max are teaming up for a fictional true-crime series set in the DC Universe. Titled DC Crime, the series takes the form of a true-crime docuseries hosted by Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo. The first season focuses on Gorilla Grodd, the telepathic ape and longtime nemesis of The Flash.
Familiar Names Behind the Camera
Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, creators of Netflix’s American Vandal, will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunners. James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios are also attached as executive producers, with Galen Vaisman overseeing production for DC Studios. Warner Bros. Television will produce the series.
Yacenda and Perrault’s background in satirical storytelling makes them a strong fit for the project. Their work on American Vandal earned critical praise for blending humor with the conventions of true-crime television.
“V for Vendetta” Series Also in Development
In addition to DC Crime, HBO is developing a V for Vendetta television adaptation. Sources say Pete Jackson will write the series. James Gunn and Peter Safran will again executive produce, alongside Ben Stephenson of Poison Pen and Leanne Klein of Wall to Wall Media, part of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK. Warner Bros. Television will handle production.
Both projects continue Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ push to expand the DC Universe across genres and platforms.
