Bestselling creators Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen, the team behind Descender, Ascender, and Little Monsters, are joining forces again. Their new ongoing series, Crowbound, arrives from Image Comics in March 2026. The announcement came last night at New York Comic Con during the Lunar Distribution retailer event, which drew a packed room of comic shop owners.
A World Divided
In Crowbound, every child begins work at thirteen inside The Factory. The massive structure divides the world in two. Children pull levers, push buttons, and never know why. Ava is one of those children. When the sinister Factory Men choose her for “special service” up the coast, her fate changes forever.
Her mother, Rose, is left devastated. Desperate to save her daughter, she strikes a dangerous bargain with the mysterious Scarecrow Queen.
“Crowbound has been a project Dustin and I have been developing for several years, and we are incredibly excited to finally unleash it,” said Lemire. “This is our next major collaboration, something huge in scope like Descender was, but this story will also break uncharted territory for us creatively. If Descender was a sprawling space opera, then Crowbound is a sprawling dark fantasy revenge saga filled with heart, emotion, and rage, all rendered in the way only Dustin Nguyen can.”
Nguyen added: “Not only am I excited to explore this entirely new world with Jeff, but also excited to discover entirely new ways to tell stories and an exciting new direction for my art on this next book as well- this happens every time I collaborate with Jeff.”
A Journey Fueled by Love and Rage
Rose sets out on a nightmarish quest across the lowlands. The land crawls with strange creatures, forgotten gods, and the ruins of the old world. Fueled by fury, grief, and love, she will stop at nothing to find Ava.
Crowbound delivers a blood-soaked fairytale filled with Southern Gothic dread and Neo-Western grit. One woman’s hope burns bright against the gathering shadows.
