A New Chapter for the Wolf Man

Blood Of The Wolf Man

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have teamed with Universal Products & Experiences to launch Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man. The four-issue limited series comes from writer Joshua Williamson (G.I. JOE, Superman) and artist Leomacs (Basketful of Heads, Rogues).

The new series arrives in comic shops in June 2026. It brings the legendary Wolf Man back for a darker, more emotional story.

Williamson Promises a Dark, Emotional Story

Williamson says the project stands apart from his superhero work.

“As a big fan of the 1941 The Wolf Man film from Universal Pictures and the Universal Monsters comics line with Skybound, I knew I had to do this book,” he said. “It’s very different from my usual superhero work. Easily the most tragic. It’s a dramatic, emotional, and heartbreaking comic about family and generational trauma.”

He also promises a brutal edge.

“Oh, and bloody and violent. It earns the Blood of the Wolf Man title in more ways than one,” Williamson added. “And of course, I had to bring along my Rogues partner in crime Leomacs. His art captures the pain of The Wolf Man and the world he’s living in. This is not going to be what you expect.”

Leomacs Explores the Humanity Behind the Horror

Leomacs leans into the character’s emotional core.

“Universal Monsters films have always captured my imagination, as there’s so much humanity in these characters,” he said. “They are all incredibly iconic because they are both tragically human and terrifying like a wild nightmare at the same time.”

He calls the project a dream assignment.

“The Wolf Man has always been a favorite of mine, so it’s a dream to draw this character in a brand-new story and setting,” Leomacs added. “Together we explore the Wolf Man’s bloodlust and the inevitable consequences.”

A Survivor With a Dark Secret

The story follows Adam Jaeger, a college student who wants a fresh start.

That plan collapses overnight.

One moment, Adam is at a party. The next, he wakes up after a massacre that leaves almost no survivors. The most terrifying part is the possibility that he caused it.

As something inside him begins to break free, Adam fights to hold on to his humanity. He will do anything to stop himself from becoming the Wolf Man.

Expanding the Universal Monsters Line

Skybound editor Diegs Lopez says the creative team brings new depth to the classic monster.

“It’s amazing to see Joshua Williamson and Leomacs reunite to present this reimagining of the iconic The Wolf Manstory,” Lopez said. “Josh is firing on all cylinders, adding to the mythos with tragic and emotional storytelling, and Leomacs brings this 1970s world to life with tense and visceral art.”

Lopez also points to the publisher’s growing slate.

“Coming off the thrilling conclusion of Phantom of the Opera in May, we’re excited to now bring Universal Monsters stories to readers every month,” he added.

A Growing Horror Universe

The series marks the seventh entry in Skybound’s Universal Monsters line. Previous titles include Dracula by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds, Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! by Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts, Frankenstein by Michael Walsh, The Mummy by Faith Erin Hicks, The Invisible Man by James Tynion IV and DANI, and Phantom of the Opera by Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds.

The partnership between Skybound and Universal Products & Experiences spans nearly a decade. It includes film, video games, and now a growing line of comics.

More limited series are already in development. Each will pair top comic creators with iconic monsters.

Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man #1 hits comic shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
