Rob Liefeld is bringing one of his signature ’90s creations back to comics. The legendary creator behind “Youngblood,” “Badrock” and “Deadpool” will team with fan-favorite artist Daniel Mainé for a new “Avengelyne” series from Image Comics.
The series will give the character an all-new beginning and is set to launch this November. It arrives as Warner Bros. continues developing an “Avengelyne” film.
Variant Covers Join the Launch
The debut issue will feature several variant covers from notable artists. Contributors include Diógenes Neves (“Spider-Verse Unlimited Infinity Comics”), Shannon Maer, Dan Lawlis, Andy Park (“Avengelyne,” “Tomb Raider”) and Ben Bradi.
The lineup gives the new series additional visual firepower as Liefeld brings Avengelyne back into the spotlight. The launch also introduces the character to a new generation of comic book readers.
Liefeld Praises Daniel Mainé
“Avengelyne is all the way back! Finding a creative partner on par with Daniel Mainé was essential in creating these new adventures,” said Liefeld. “Daniel is blowing me away, a perfect match for our Avengeing Angel! As with all my titles, I wait until the right talent manifests and I wouldn’t be doing this without Daniel, his work is certain to impress!”
Mainé joins Liefeld in giving the character a fresh direction while building on her established mythology. The creative team will introduce a new conflict centered on faith, demons and Avengelyne’s return.
The Avenging Angel Returns
In “Avengelyne,” a priest who is losing his faith faces a new challenge when a mysterious angel appears. Avengelyne’s arrival quickly attracts the attention of Belisle, a wealthy demon lord.
Demonic forces soon target Avengelyne and attempt to turn her to their cause. Her return sets the stage for a new supernatural battle that puts her powers and purpose at the center of the story.
A New Beginning for a ’90s Favorite
The new series is aimed at longtime fans and readers discovering Avengelyne for the first time. Fans of titles including “Youngblood,” “Spawn” and “Vampirella” will also find familiar supernatural and action-driven elements in the new direction.
“Avengelyne #1” will be available at comic book shops and on digital platforms Wednesday, October 7.
