Dynamite announces a hotly anticipated return to the comics medium for Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, one of the all-time beloved and best-selling fantasy oeuvres across fiction. Writer Rik Hoskin leads an adaptation of the iconic second novel, The Great Hunt, which brings everyone’s favorite moments to life on the page and adds exciting new dimensions.
The Great Hunt stars the beloved series protagonist Rand al’Thor, as he and his companions Mat Cauthon and Perrin Aybara set out to retrieve the legendary Horn of Valere. Revealed as the Dragon Reborn, Rand’s adventure will be full of action and intrigue, such as when he finds himself transported to an alternate world. Meanwhile his initial love interest Egwene al’Vere is on her own journey to the White Tower to learn the ways of the Aes Sedai. With the Dark One hot on the heels of the new Dragon, everything will come to a head across many thrilling issues.
Writer Rik Hoskin (Brandon Sanderson’s White Sand, Pierce Brown’s Red Rising) is on board to channel Jordan’s iconic characters and world. He’s joined by artist Marcio Abreu (Red Sonja, Warlord of Mars) who has been knocking each script out of the park.
“With a project like this, I always try to be as faithful as I can to the source material,” said writer Rik Hoskin. “That means familiarizing myself with the world, and trying to get it all into chunks I can refer to quickly — a bit like making revision notes when you’re at school!”
This new series follows prior adaptations through Dynamite Entertainment and others of the prequel novel New Springand debut The Eye of the World, with those comics now collected as graphic novels published by Tor Books. Fans can jump right into this series though, as each chapter is perfectly approachable with the introduction of its characters and new stories.
The epic has also recently seen adaptation to the screen, in a Prime original series. The second series will premiere this September, with this comic series to follow hot on its heels as the perfect companion in a symphony of new material for fans.
Issues of the comic series feature three variant covers for fans and collectors to choose from. Mel Rubi (George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice, Red Sonja) and Jordan Gunderson contribute art covers, and photo covers from the Prime show are also available.
Published by Tor Books, The Wheel of Time kicked off in 1990 with the release of its first volume, and Robert Jordan’s world of high fantasy that combined elements of both the far past and far future became an instant hit. The series grew to 15 total novels, including a prequel and final entries written by fellow fantasy juggernaut Brandon Sanderson following Jordan’s passing. With well over 90 million copies sold, The Wheel of Time stands as one of the most popular and prolific fantasy properties since The Lord of the Rings.
THE WHEEL OF TIME: THE GREAT HUNT #1 is slated for release in November 2023. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more.
