Rupert Wyatt to Direct Planet of the Apes Prequel

Conquest_of_the Planet_of _the ApesTwentieth Century Fox is one step closer to start working on a Planet of the Apes prequel, tentatively titled Caesar. According to Deadline New York, British director Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) has been tapped for the directors chair.

The script has been in development for quite some time and was said to be sort of a remake of the fourth film in the original franchise,  Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. With producer Scott Rudin and original writer Scott Frank walking away from the project earlier this year, we’re not sure if this new script is a rewrite of Frank’s original or an entirely new screenplay, but the script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver centers on how humans become inferior to their primate cousins due to the science and technology used to create the hyper-intelligent apes.

As of now, there is no word on when filming will begin.
