Clive Owen has just joined Jason Statham to star in the action thriller The Killer Elite, according to Variety.
The film follows a group of former British SAS members that are being hunted by a team of assassins led by Statham’s character, an ex-Navy Seal. Owen’s character is a senior field operative in charge of protecting the former British special forces soldiers and their families.
The film is based on the 1991 novel The Feather Men by Ranulph Fiennes, cousin of actors Ralph and Joseph Fiennes. Irishman Gary McKendrick makes his feature film directing debut with this film.
Shooting begins on May 13th in Melbourne and will continue in Australia through mid-July with additional scenes to be shot in Wales in late July. The Killer Elite is set to hit theaters sometime in 2011.
