Watchmen co-writer Alex Tse has been hired to write the screenplay of the first book in John Twelve Hawks’ The Fourth Realm trilogy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has tapped Tse to adapt The Traveler, the first book in the trilogy.
The novels are set in the US where a secret organization constantly observes the population in order to control them. Rebelling against the governments forces are group of people who can project their spirits into other dimensions called the Travelers. They are helped along by others who call themselves Harlequins. The first book centers on Maya, a reluctant Harlequin who must protect two Traveler brothers.
Tse has his hands full with this project. John Twelve Hawks is a recluse and Twelve Hawks only a pen name. No one knows for sure who the man behind these books actually is, and he has never had face to face meetings with either his agent or editor. Twelve Hawks communicates mainly through the internet and untraceable satellite phones using a voice scrambler. At book signings, Twelve Hawks uses stand ins. Considering Tse co-wrote the Watchmen with David Hayter (based on the comic miniseries written by well known curmudgeon, Alan Moore), my guess is that he used to adapting books into scripts derived from uncooperative creators.
No director or actors have been attached to the project as of yet. Gil Netter and Andrew Tennenbaum will produce the film, with Joe Regal executive producing.
