Frieda Pinto Cast in War of the Gods

Pinto_Cavill_War_of_the_GodsThe ancient gods must be happy. So far, this year has given us Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Clash of the Titans will be hitting movie screens April 2.  Now comes word that War of the Gods is set to start shooting in April, with Frieda Pinto added to the cast as Phaedra. The Slumdog Millionaire beauty will play an oracle priestess who joins Theseus in his quest.

Henry Cavill has already been cast as the Theseus, who leads his men into battle alongside the ancient immortal Greek gods against their elders, the Titans, in order to save all of mankind.  The film will be directed by Tarsem Singh (The Fall) for Relativity Media and Universal Studios.

Even though the story sounds vaguely similar to Clash of the Titans, Tarsem’s distinct visual style could make this film stand out. War of the Gods started development at the same time as Clash of the Titans with a script bought by Universal in 2007 by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides  (with addtional re-writes by Jason Keller), and will be produced by Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton (the men behind 2007’s 300). Relativity Media is responsible for the hit Zombieland, so this one could be worth watching. Let’s just hope we mere mortals will not tire of the ancient myths before its release and will be as pleased as the gods in the end.
