Wascawy Wabbit Gets New Film Deal

Warner Brothers is bringing the iconic Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes back to the big screen in an as yet untitled, new live-action/CG feature film, according to Deadline.

Bugs Bunny started his meteoric rise to fame in the 1940 cartoon “Wild Hare” and starred in over 163 Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons in his 70 year career, including one that was voted as the greatest cartoon of all time, “What’s Opera, Doc?”. His New York accent, along with his quick wit and wild antics made him into one of the most well known and well loved cartoon characters of all time.

In 1996, he and his cohorts Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck and the rest of the Looney Tunes starred opposite Michael Jordan and other stars of the NBA in the live action/animated film, Space Jam.   Although the film did very well at the box office, it didn’t restart the Looney Tunes franchise as hoped. Bugs & co. didn’t fare as well in another attempt at feature film stardom in 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back In Action with Brendan Frasier, Steve Martin and Jenna Elfman.

Although no producer is attached to the project at this time, Warner Brothers has hired the writer of Elf, David Berenbaum, to write the screenplay. Hopefully Berenbaum will bring to life our favorite “wascawy wabbit’ and not a toned down Bugs Bunny, but since he wrote the hit Elf for real life ‘toon Will Ferrell, one can hope for the best.  Stay “tooned” for more details…
