Bestselling writer Curt Pires and artist JOK are teaming up for Creature Corps, a new ongoing series from Image Comics. The action-driven title will debut in December.
Pires is known for Fireborn and Lost Fantasy. JOK’s credits include 51 and In Hell We Fight.
A Violent Twist on Creature-Battling Nostalgia
Creature Corps combines the creature-battling energy of the 1990s with the violent satire of The Boys. The series aims to turn familiar genre elements into something darker, sharper, and more unpredictable.
The story begins in 1999, when time breaks and the Calamity Creatures arrive from a desolate future. Humanity quickly begins battling them, but the conflict soon becomes a massive commercial spectacle.
That spectacle becomes Creature Corps, a for-profit sporting event built around battles with the creatures. It grows into one of the biggest sporting attractions since the UFC.
A Former Champion Is Pulled Back In
Dusty Gotem was only 14 years old when he became the Creature Corps world champion. He eventually walked away from the sport in disgust and disappeared from public life.
Seventeen years later, Dusty remains in hiding. His life changes when a time quake strikes and seriously injures his mother, leaving her with massive medical bills.
Dusty sees only one path forward. He must reunite his old team and fight his way back to the Creature Corps world championship.
Curt Pires Teases a Bigger Launch
“I’m beyond grateful that retailers and readers made Fireborn one of the biggest books of the spring, and now I’m ecstatic to be back at image comics with Creature Corps to lay claim to the winter,” said Pires. “This is a big bold audacious idea that unites ’90s nostalgia with deconstructionist satirical insanity. And we’ve got it all: a giant sized first issue for just $4.99, a TCG component, and a stunning array of covers from industry leading artists. Creature Corps is just getting started. Jump aboard.”
The launch will include a giant-sized first issue priced at $4.99. The series will also feature a trading card game component and multiple covers from industry artists.
Creature Corps #1 Arrives December 2
Creature Corps #1 will be available at comic book shops and on digital platforms on Wednesday, December 2. The issue launches what Image Comics is positioning as an ongoing series built around creature combat, satire, and 1990s-inspired genre storytelling.
