Skybound and Image Comics have announced “Tales of Wonder,” a new limited series from creator, writer, and artist Steve Skroce.
Skroce, known for “We Stand on Guard,” “Wolverine,” and “The Matrix Trilogy,” teams with colorist Ian Herring and letterer Pat Brosseau. “Tales of Wonder” #1 arrives in comic shops on September 2, 2026.
A Superhero Epic About Creation and Conflict
The series follows two estranged comic book creators who must save the world when their most heroic and villainous creations come to life.
Skybound describes the series as a superhero epic unlike any other. The book is aimed at fans of “The Ultimates” and “Ghost Pepper.”
“This is a story I’ve dreamt of telling for years. It’s a tale about the many pitfalls of creative collaboration. When things go south, lifelong friendships can end and the axe grinding can last for decades,” remarked creator Steve Skroce. “Tales of Wonder is about finding your way back from that, it’s about believing in a second chance to get things right, it’s about the value of friendship, and it’s all wrapped up in a full throttle, action packed Superhero adventure. I hope you dig it.”
Old Friends Face Their Greatest Creations
Stu and Jake forged their friendship during World War II. But their bond could not survive the comic book industry.
Their Wonder Comics creations grew from four-color sensations into a global phenomenon. Then everything changed.
Now, the two legendary creators have reunited to launch the America’s Freedom Force cinematic universe. But they soon discover that the superheroes and monsters they created are very, very real.
Stu and Jake must confront decades of bad blood and stolen credit. If they cannot work together, they may not be able to help the world’s greatest superheroes save the world.
Skybound Praises Skroce’s New Series
Skybound Executive Editor Ben Abernathy praised Skroce and the scope of the new series.
“Steve Skroce is a generational talent, and I’m beyond thrilled that his latest series is here at Skybound,” said Abernathy. “His poignant tale of two Golden Age comic book creators as they face their greatest creations, literally, is a tale for the ages!”
