Xbox used its 2026 Games Showcase to make a clear statement about the next wave of its gaming lineup.
The presentation featured major franchise returns, new world premieres, anniversary hardware and updates for live games. The announcements covered Xbox Game Studios titles, partner releases and several games headed to Game Pass.
The biggest reveals included “Gears of War: E-Day,” “Fable,” “Halo: Campaign Evolved,” “Persona 6,” “Spyro: A Realm Beyond,” “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4” and a new 25th anniversary Xbox console.
Xbox Celebrates 25 Years With New Hardware
Xbox opened the door on its 25th anniversary celebration with the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition and Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition.
The console draws inspiration from the original Xbox. It features a translucent design and OG Green details. The controller also pays tribute to the brand’s history, including the original ABXY colors, classic Xbox green and bumpers inspired by the black and white buttons from the original “Duke” controller.
The console and controller will launch in select markets in November 2026. The controller will also be sold separately.
Gears of War Returns to E-Day
“Gears of War: E-Day” brought one of the showcase’s biggest moments.
The new gameplay demo dropped players into the terror of Emergence Day. The story follows the fall of the world and the early bond between Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
The showcase also included a dedicated “Gears of War: E-Day Direct.” The deeper presentation focused on story, gameplay and the return of one of Xbox’s signature franchises.
“Gears of War: E-Day” launches October 6, 2026. Pre-orders also include early access to the open beta, which begins August 6, 2026.
Fable Sets Its Return for 2027
Playground Games also gave fans a new look at “Fable.”
The trailer introduced Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, played by Hayley Atwell. Isabel is a powerful Hero with a tragic past. She once trained under Guildmaster Humphry the Golden, but her search for answers has pushed her toward darkness.
The trailer also teased the return of Jack of Blades, one of the most recognizable characters from the original “Fable.”
“Fable” launches February 23, 2027. Early access for the Premium Edition begins February 18, 2027.
Halo Adds New Missions in Campaign Evolved
Halo Studios confirmed that “Halo: Campaign Evolved” launches July 28, 2026.
The game will also offer up to five days of early access beginning July 23. Pre-orders are open now across Xbox, Steam and PlayStation. The game will also be available day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
The showcase debuted the New Missions Trailer. It offered a first look at Operation: METEORITE, a set of three new missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson on a secret UNSC operation behind enemy lines.
Microsoft’s First-Party Slate Expands
Xbox also showed more from several first-party studios.
“State of Decay 3” received its first gameplay trailer and is set for 2027. Undead Labs described the game as the next evolution of its open-world survival franchise. Players will build settlements, protect survivors and fight evolving zombie threats.
Ninja Theory revealed “Senua,” a new action-adventure game set in the “Hellblade” universe. The story follows Senua after the events of “Hellblade II” as she fights through a fractured vision of purgatory. The game arrives in 2027.
Toys for Bob announced “Spyro: A Realm Beyond,” the first completely original “Spyro” game in almost 20 years. The new adventure brings back longtime Spyro voice actor Tom Kenny and introduces full dragon flight. It launches in spring 2027.
inXile entertainment returned with a new look at “Clockwork Revolution.” The time-bending steampunk RPG follows Morgan and the Rotten Row Hooligans through a reactive world shaped by player choices. The game is set for 2027.
Call of Duty Shows a New DMZ Experience
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4” used the showcase to reveal its new DMZ experience.
Players deploy solo or with a squad into a volatile conflict zone. Their mission centers on recovering advanced military technology left behind after war.
The mode emphasizes risk, extraction and player choice. Players can loot, fight, negotiate, betray and escape with whatever they can carry.

Doom, Minecraft and Age of Empires Get New Content
“DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations” launches July 7, 2026. The new campaign expansion sends the Doom Slayer into purgatory and adds new levels, demons, puzzles and the Chain Spear.
“Minecraft Dungeons II” arrives September 29, 2026. The sequel introduces new environments, tougher enemies and more ways to customize characters. Pre-orders include two hero skins, the Twisted cape and the Twisted chicken pet.
“Age of Empires IV” will expand later in 2026 with “Raiders of the North.” The expansion adds Vikings and Scots as new civilizations, along with new masteries, music, voiceover, units, buildings, missions and biomes.
Persona Leads a Strong Partner Lineup
ATLUS had a major presence at the showcase.
“Persona 4 Revival” launches February 18, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will also be available through Game Pass. The reimagined RPG returns players to Inaba with enhanced visuals, improved gameplay and modern quality-of-life updates.
ATLUS also announced “Persona 6.” The teaser confirmed the next mainline entry in the series for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A release date has not been announced.
Plague Tale, Metro and Wo Long Continue the Showcase Push
“Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy” arrives August 27, 2026. The new entry is set 15 years before the first “A Plague Tale” game and follows Sophia on a dangerous journey across a mysterious island tied to ancient myths and buried secrets.
“METRO 2039” launches in February 2027. Its first gameplay trailer showed in-game footage from a post-apocalyptic Moscow and highlighted the series’ mix of survival, stealth, violence and horror.
Team NINJA announced “Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember” for early 2027. The action RPG is set after the first game and returns to a fantasy version of the late Eastern Han period. Players control a nameless champion fighting humans and demons across large battlefields.
Indie and Genre Titles Add More Variety
Xbox also leaned into smaller and genre-focused releases.
Milktooth revealed “Bad Magpie,” a 2027 game about a one-winged magpie causing chaos in an idyllic world.
“JOIN US” launches in March 2027. The darkly comedic open-world co-op game lets players recruit followers, build a compound and run a doomsday cult.
“Magicians: The Devil’s Deal” comes to Xbox in 2027. The narrative-driven first-person action game follows Jacob, a fallen stage magician bound by a pact with the Devil.
“Vivarium” arrives in 2027. The life-sim adventure draws inspiration from classic cel-drawn anime and features a cozy terrarium world shaped by player choices.
Classic Franchises Return
Several familiar names also made an impact.
“Crazy Taxi: World Tour” brings Sega’s driving series back in 2027. The new game adds a story campaign across five cities, online multiplayer racing, car customization and a revamped classic mode.
“Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse” launches October 15, 2026. The 2D action-exploration game comes from Konami, Evil Empire and Motion Twin. It is set 23 years after “Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse” and follows Rose Belmont, the daughter of Trevor Belmont.
“Valor Mortis” launches September 24, 2026. The first-person Soulslike stars a former soldier who rises from death during a twisted version of the Napoleonic Wars. The trailer also revealed Vincent Cassel as the voice of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Live Games Get New Updates
Xbox closed out the showcase with several updates for ongoing games.
“Fallout 76: Infestations” is available now. The free update changes familiar Appalachia locations with new threats, tough fights and new rewards, including 4-Star Legendary weapon and armor mods.
“The Elder Scrolls Online” will launch Season One on July 8 with a new Thieves Guild storyline. The update will also add high-seas events, new challenges, rewards and more ways to play.
“Sea of Thieves” will launch Custom Seas on June 18. The free update lets players shape their own custom game modes, set rules, add items and enemies, assign crews and capture the action with Free Camera mode.
“Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024” is adding World Update 22: U.S. National Parks on July 4. The free update adds more than 30 U.S. national parks across 12 states. A separate National Championship Air Races update will arrive in fall 2026.
“Where Winds Meet” is available now on Xbox. The free-to-play wuxia open-world action RPG also teased its next major expansion, “Hidden Mountain,” which arrives in July 2026.
Xbox Builds Toward a Busy 2026 and 2027
The 2026 Xbox Games Showcase gave players a crowded calendar.
The near-term lineup includes “Halo: Campaign Evolved,” “DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations,” “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy,” “Valor Mortis,” “Minecraft Dungeons II,” “Gears of War: E-Day,” “Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse” and new Xbox anniversary hardware.
The 2027 slate looks just as packed. “Fable,” “State of Decay 3,” “Senua,” “Spyro: A Realm Beyond,” “Persona 4 Revival,” “METRO 2039,” “Crazy Taxi: World Tour,” “Clockwork Revolution,” “JOIN US,” “Bad Magpie,” “Vivarium” and “Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember” are all on the way.
For Xbox, the showcase was more than a preview. It was a statement of scale, nostalgia and platform ambition heading into the brand’s 25th anniversary year.
