Fx Orders ‘Very Young Frankenstein’ To Series

Young Frankenstein

FX has ordered Very Young Frankenstein to series.

The project first received a pilot order in 2025. FX has not revealed exact plot details. The series is inspired by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder’s classic comedy Young Frankenstein.

As previously reported, the show stars Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells and Spencer House. Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani and Cary Elwes also appeared in the pilot.

FX Veterans Lead the Creative Team

Very Young Frankenstein comes from writer Stefani Robinson, who also executive produces.

Robinson is joined by executive producers Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch. All three previously worked on FX’s hit comedy series What We Do in the Shadows. Waititi also directed the pilot.

Mel Brooks, who co-wrote and directed the original film, will executive produce the series. Kevin Salter and Michael Gruskoff will also executive produce. Salter is Brooks’ producing partner. Gruskoff produced the original film.

20th Television is the studio.

FX Promises a New Take on a Comedy Classic

“’Very Young Frankenstein’ blends inspiration from the fan-favorite movie with the inventive, irreverent spirit that has defined FX comedies over the years, making this a completely original take on the classic story,” said Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment. “In the hands of FX veterans Stefani, Taika and Garrett, alongside the iconic Mel Brooks, we know that fans will have as much fun watching this series as we’re having making it.”

The Legacy of Young Frankenstein

Young Frankenstein premiered in 1974 and quickly won over critics and audiences. It remains widely cited as one of the funniest American films ever made.

Wilder starred as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, pronounced “Fronk-en-steen,” the grandson of Victor Frankenstein. After inheriting his grandfather’s estate in Transylvania, Frederick finds himself pulled into continuing the family work of reanimating the dead.

The film’s cast also included Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle and Kenneth Mars.

Gene Hackman also made a brief appearance as a blind man who encounters Frankenstein’s monster.
