The brutal sword-and-sorcery world of Fire and Ice returns this summer with a new comic series. The spotlight shifts to Darkwolf, the fierce and mysterious warrior. Writer Dan Panosian and artist Andrey Lunatik lead the project.
A Legacy Born from Fantasy Icons
Darkwolf comes from the imagination of legendary illustrator Frank Frazetta and animation pioneer Ralph Bakshi. The character stands as one of the most memorable elements of their original collaboration.
In the film, Darkwolf hides behind his iconic mask. He crosses paths with Larn and Teegra during the central conflict. He ultimately defeats Nekron himself.
A Prequel Story Takes Shape
The new series explores Darkwolf’s story before those events. Panosian offers a closer look at the warrior, while still preserving his mystery.
The story begins with a mother and her twins on the run from a powerful warlock. The children’s father sends his forces to hunt them down. Their fate shifts when a legendary warrior descends from the mountains and cuts through their pursuers. The rescue is only the beginning.
“Darkwolf is pure Frank Frazetta in its most raw and unfiltered form,” said writer Dan Panosian. “Wild, savage and let loose upon a world as terrifying as he is!”
A Striking Artistic Debut
Artist Andrey Lunatik makes his mainstream debut with the series. His dynamic, ink-heavy style drives the action. The visuals match the intensity of Darkwolf’s battles and the story’s relentless pace.
Covers That Honor the Legacy
The Fire and Ice name carries high expectations for visual storytelling. The new series meets that challenge with a strong lineup of cover artists.
Panosian contributes his own work alongside Stjepan Šejić, Joe Jusko, Stuart Sayger, and Cary Nord. Jusko and Nord bring deep roots in barbarian comics. The full roster reflects the tone and tradition of the genre.
Expanding the Fire and Ice Universe
Fire and Ice: Darkwolf builds on the franchise’s expanding comic line. The series joins a flagship prequel and character-focused specials centered on Teegra and Nekron.
Previous contributors include Bill Willingham, Leonardo Manco, Gabriele di Caro, Geof Isherwood, and Sara Frazetta.
The legend of Darkwolf begins here. The series delivers a violent, mythic story driven by a relentless force of nature.
