‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Heads To Television

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is officially getting a television adaptation.

Sky confirmed Tuesday that an eight-part series is in development. The project comes from Left Bank Pictures, the studio behind The Crown and Dept Q. The series draws from the globally bestselling Millennium novels by Stieg Larsson.

A Modern Reimagining

The show is described as a bold, contemporary take on Larsson’s world. It brings The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo into the present while staying rooted in the characters and investigative core of the Millennium books. Producers say the themes will carry renewed relevance for today’s audience.

From Page to Screen

The Millennium novels have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. The first book was adapted into a feature film in 2011. Steven Zaillian wrote the screenplay, with David Fincher directing. The film starred Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as hacker Lisbeth Salander. The story followed the pair as they investigated a decades-old cold case. A sequel, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, arrived in 2018, directed by Fede Álvarez.

Creative Team and Production Plans

No casting has been announced. Production is scheduled to begin in Lithuania this spring.

Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna will write and executive produce the series. Additional executive producers include Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore, and John Phillips for Left Bank Pictures, along with Sam Hoyle for Sky.

Global Release Strategy

The series will stream on Sky across the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution, with U.S. pre-sales already in progress.
