Thanks to her husband, talk show host Jonathan Ross, the world now knows that Jane Goldman, co-screenwriter of Kick-Ass, is hard at work on the new installment of the X-Men franchise, X-Men: First Class.
Ross announced it via Twitter: “Also, for those who need to know, my wife IS currently writing X men First Class. It’s just referred to as X men 4 around the house…”
When pushed to talk more on the subject, he also added: “I am afraid I better not answer any more queries re X-Men First Class for fear of spoilers and also possible divorce. Thank you.”
X-Men: First Class will follow how the relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) turned from friendship into the two becoming adversaries and the founding of Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters.
Goldman’s involvement with the X-Men film comes as no surprise to most, mainly due to Matthew Vaughn coming on last week as director on the film. Goldman and Vaughn have written the Debt, Stardust and Kick-Ass together, and Vaughn has stated he can’t imagine writing without her. Goldman and Vaughn will be working from an original idea by Bryan Singer, who will be a producer on the film.
X-men: First Class is set to hit theaters June 3, 2011.
