Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene Might be Out of Breaking Dawn

Condon_Twilight_Breaking DawnSo Twilight fans… what do you want more?  Breaking Dawn split into two films or the Cullen family intact with Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene in as Emmett and Alice? According to The Hollywood Reporter, there is a chance that either Lutz or Greene (or maybe even both) might be let go IF Summit Entertainment and their respective teams can’t come to an agreement over their contracts for the film(s) to be directed by Bill Condon.

While Summit has come very close to deals with the franchise’s three leads (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner) for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II, a source “close to the dealmaking” tells The Hollywood Reporter that “We may have a situation where one of them (Lutz or Greene) is thrown out on the street to make a point.” Another source, one closer to actors Lutz and Greene, is reporting that the offers they received for the proposed fifth film were “offensive” in regards to just how much the franchise has brought in to the studio. Both Lutz and Greene are being offered much more money than they received for the first installment, though it is not anywhere near the raises that Stewart, Lautner and Pattinson are getting for a possible fifth film.

Granted, this would not be the first time an actor in the Twilight franchise has been replaced.  Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard as the murderous Victoria for the upcoming film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which is due in theaters June 30th. Whether or not fans of the franchise will be upset by this cast change is yet to be seen.  Is it worth the risk to the studio to make the fans angry for two characters that are much more recognizable in their parts than Lefevre was in hers?  Especially when the fifth film won’t be seen at the very least for two years from now?   An absence that long from the hearts and minds of devoted fans along with a sudden cast change in the final film might be enough to keep them away. Both sides should think long and hard at their decisions before making any sort of rash judgement.

In any case, the fourth installment (and possibly the fifth) goes before cameras this fall with a script (or possibly pair of scripts) by Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted the first two of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight books for the screen. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is set to hit theaters November 18, 2011.
