Matthew Vaughn is working at a furious pace to cast X-Men: First Class. Now comes word that Jennifer Lawrence and Kevin Bacon are joining the cast, according to a report at The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog.
Jennifer Lawrence will play the shape-shifter Mystique, who was portrayed by Rebecca Romijn in the X-Men trilogy. Kevin Bacon’s role has not been specified as of yet due to the studios insistence to keep it a secret, but he will be the villain of the film.
Bacon and Lawrence join a cast that includes James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto/ Erik Lehnsherr, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult as the Beast, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee.
The film is slated to go before cameras later this summer in London with a screenplay by Jane Goldman. X-Men: first Class is due to hit theaters June 3, 2011.
