Dynamite Entertainment announced The Green Hornet: Parallel Lives, an official comic book prequel inspired by the January 14, 2011 release of Sony Pictures’ highly anticipated action film “The Green Hornet,” starring Seth Rogen. The first and second issues are now on sale at comic book stores everywhere! How do one man’s actions affect another man’s – either purposely or inadvertently? Or is it just destiny? In this lead-up and origin series, audiences learn how Britt Reid’s actions lead to Kato coming in contact with the Reid family and the pair eventually becoming The Green Hornet and Kato. The comic book features incredible covers by Paul Renaud (RED SONJA)!
“The Green Hornet: Parallel Lives is my take on the characters from the movie,” says writer Jai Nitz. “Reading the screenplay is one thing, but then being able to imagine Seth Rogen and Jay Chou in my story is a real treat. The tales I tell in Parallel Lives sprung up while I was reading the script. I had several ‘wouldn’t it be great if…’ moments and those turned into the seeds of The Green Hornet: Parallel Lives. Also, like the movie, I tried to defy expectations at every turn. I tried to throw every cliché out the window to make room for awesome stories that add to the movie lore.”
The Green Hornet is directed by Michel Gondry, written by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, based upon “The Green Hornet” radio series created by George W. Trendle, and produced by Neal H. Moritz. The film will be released on January 14, 2011 in 3D.
In The Green Hornet, Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the son of LA’s most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene – until his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father’s more industrious and inventive employees, Kato (Jay Chou), they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. To get close to the criminals, they come up with the perfect cover: they’ll pose as criminals themselves. Protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets.
Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, The Black Beauty, an indestructible car equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato’s clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt’s new secretary, Lenore Case, they begin hunting down the man who controls LA’s gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz). But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all.
