Breck Eisner, the director behind the remake of George Romero’s The Crazies, is in negotiations to bring Snake Plissken back to theater screens. According to the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, New Line has set its sights on Eisner to direct a remake of John Carpenter’s cult classic, Escape From New York.
New Line first got the rights to the film back in 2007 with a script by Ken Nolan, with Gerard Butler attached to star. Butler left over creative differences and since then, the film has passed through several directors and screenwriters. Eisner is panning to bring Alan Loeb’s version of the script to the screen. The script follows the basic plot of the original film, which saw former soldier and criminal Snake Plissken dropped into a dystopian Manhattan ruled by gangs to save the President after Air Force One crashes.
No word on who will play Snake Plissken this time around, or when the film will go into production. Stay tuned for more details as they trickle in.
