Last year, Anton Yelchin played very strong supporting roles in both the reboot of Star Trek and Terminator Salvation. Now comes word that Yelchin is in talks to play Charley Brewster in DreamWorks Studio’s remake of the 1985 cult horror/comedy Fright Night, according to both The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog and Variety.
The script for the new film has been scripted by Marti Noxon (TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer). According to THR’s Heat Vision blog, Noxon’s new script hasn’t strayed far from the plot or tone of the original film, in which a teen is convinced that his new next door neighbor is a vampire and although no one believes him, he convinces a late night horror film host to help him find out the truth.
No word yet on who will be playing the roles of Peter Vincent (played by Roddy McDowall in the original) or Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon), but with Yelchin in as Charley Brewster, casting might be off to a good start. Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) will direct.
