A Dune remake is finally back on track, now that Paramount Pictures has found a replacement director. Peter Berg was supposed to helm the remake, but left the project to focus on Battleship in October 2009. According to Entertainment Weekly, Paramount has signed Pierre Morel to direct a new version of Dune.
Paramount is supposedly giving this production “high priority”, and is looking to hire a new writer to mix Morel’s vision for the film with the draft penned by Josh Zetumer (Quantuum of Solace).
Pierre Morel hit big last year with the action flick Taken, starring Liam Neeson and has yet another action movie From Paris with Love, set for release on February 5th which stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Travolta. Morel is hoping to be faithful to the classic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert. Considering that Taken was one of last year’s best action films, let’s hope that he can inject some excitement in this well loved epic story that was missing from both the 1984 original film and 2000 miniseries.
