Wizards of the Coast is continuing its tradition of offering products, information and previews to attendees of the popular game convention, Gen Con Indy. At this year’s event, Wizards will be debuting new and expanded gameplay options for fans of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and more.
With several exciting new products slated for release in the fall of 2010, Wizards is giving Gen Con attendees the opportunity to experience these products before they are released. In September, Wizards is releasing a 4th Edition version of the classic D&D Fantasy Roleplaying Game (a.k.a. the D&D red box). Gen Con attendees will be among the first fans in the world to see and experience this new offering through special previews at the Wizards booth (#1721).
Additionally, fans of D&D who have been enjoying previews of the Dark Sun Campaign Setting through the second season of the D&D Encounters in-store gameplay program, will have the opportunity to purchase Dark Sun before its broad release. They can then continue their excitement for D&D Encounters by attending a seminar led by the program’s developers and organizers to get previews of the program’s upcoming seasons.
For Magic: The Gathering fans, the “Summer of Multiplayer” campaign continues at Gen Con with various multiplayer events including Massive Magic and MTG Archenemy games alongside the game’s masterminds.
Celebrating its digital MTG offerings, Wizards will also offer attendees the chance to play existing MTG-based PC and XBLA games and see a demo of Magic: The Gathering – Tactics, an upcoming game based on the Magic: The Gathering characters and concepts. Fans will also be able to challenge each other — and MTG staff — to Duels of the Planeswalkers in the Wizards booth as well as in the MTG Digital Lounge, experiencing the top-selling XBLA game firsthand.
“Wizards is headed back to Gen Con to interact with some of the most enthusiastic gamers out there and offer them a behind-the-scenes look at what we’re putting together,” said Arron Goolsbey, Senior Director of Organized Play Programs for Wizards of the Coast. “The products and games we’re showing off this year have been fun for us to create and we are excited to see the reactions we get from attendees at the show.”
If playing their favorite games and experiencing the new gameplay options isn’t enough, fans will also have access to famed authors, artists, and designers, through signings and seminars. A full schedule of signings and seminars will be available in the Wizards booth to learn more about the games they love to play and the iconic characters they enjoy.
Gen Con Indy will be held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis from August 5 through 8. Celebrating more than 40 years as longest-running, best-attended convention of its kind, Gen Con offers attendees the chance to browse the more than 250 booths or take part in the 7,500 gaming events happening 24 hours a day over the four days. As a leader in entertaining the lifestyle gamer, Wizards of the Coast is looking forward to participating once again this year.
