Two More Added to Hugo Cabret Cast

Scorsese_Hugo_Cabret_DrawingMartin Scorsese has added Emily Mortimer (Lars and the Real Girl, Match Point)and Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man) to the ensemble cast of Hugo Cabret.

Scorsese must have enjoyed working with both Mortimer and Stahlbarg.  Mortimer previously worked with the director on Shutter’s Island, and Stuhlbarg will be seen in Scorsese’s upcoming HBO’s series, Boardwalk Empire as crime boss Arnold Rothstein.  In Hugo Cabret, Mortimer will play Lisette, the train station’s flower shop girl and Stahlbarg plays a film restorer named Rene Tabard. They join a cast that includes Asa Butterfield as Hugo Cabret, Chloe Moretz as Isabelle, Ben Kingsley as Papa Georges, Sacha Baron Cohen as the Train Inspector, Jude Law as Hugo’s father, Christopher Lee, Ray Winstone, Helen McCrory, Frances de la Tour, and Richard Griffiths.

The film which is based on Brian Selznick’s best-selling novel “The Invention of Hugo Cabret”, follows Hugo, an orphan living within the walls of a Paris train station who “encounters a broken machine, an eccentric girl and a cold, reserved man who runs a toy shop, he is caught up in a magical, mysterious adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy.”

Hugo Cabret is Scorsese’s first foray into family films and is being shot in 3D.  He is working from a screenplay by recent Tony award winner Best Play (Red), John Logan. Hugo Cabret is now shooting in London at Shepperton Studios with additional scenes on location in both London and Paris. Hugo Cabret is set for theatrical release on December 9, 2011.
