Sony announced the release of the highly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, Twisted Metal. Building upon the warped world introduced in 1995, Eat Sleep Play Co-Founders David Jaffe and Scott Campbell, the original creative team behind the franchise that defined the car combat genre, have delivered an unparalleled world of destruction to Twisted Metal, while retaining the signature dark humor, fast-action gameplay and world of cars, weapons, and destruction widely adored by fans across the globe. With four groups battling for control, players will have the opportunity to step into the combat boots of Sweet Tooth, Doll Face and Mr. Grimm in a high octane, highly destructible world. Players will have to fight for the prize of one wish to be fulfilled by the evil Calypso, the mastermind behind the Twisted Metaltournament.
“As a multi-million unit selling series, and the longest running franchise in PlayStation history, Twisted Metal is a major factor in our continued success with the PlayStation brand,” said Guy Longworth, Senior Vice President, PlayStation Brand Marketing. “With its introduction on the PS3, Twisted Metal delivers the series’ signature dark humor and personality while adding a deep online component, unique single player experience, and vast battle environments.”
In addition to four-player split-screen, players can take advantage of the robust online system and unleash destruction in a variety of new game modes with up to 16 players simultaneously. Within the online multiplayer world players will have access to a number of new vehicles, weapons, and eight sprawling environments with over 30 different maps available for destruction. In addition to classic modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Twisted Metal introduces unique modes such as Nuke, where two factions battle to destroy each other’s statue by abducting the enemy’s team leader and sacrificing them to launch a nuclear missile.
Twisted Metal boasts over a dozen vehicles, each outfitted with special weapons to strategically dismantle opponents in creative ways, from missiles and miniguns to giant magnets and flying mascots. For the first time in franchise history, players have the opportunity to take flight with the Talon, a helicopter armed to the teeth with a minigun turret.
Twisted Metal also contains an engrossing single-player campaign that reprises familiar characters combined with stunning cinematic scenes and over-the-top boss battles. Players will engage in separate and unique storylines using Sweet Tooth, Doll Face, and Mr. Grimm, and have the ability to access all of the various 16 vehicles through the campaign. Additionally, players can experience the single player campaign in co-op mode.
