Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption) has been cast as Senator Hammond in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Senator Hammond is the disapproving father of the film’s villian Doctor Hector Hammond, who will be played by Peter Sarsgarard. Even though Hector has become a brilliant pathologist, the Senator remains unimpressed, and wishes his son would follow him into politics. When Hector stumbles upon a meteor that gives him psychic powers, the issues between father and son come to a head. Others already cast in the film are Blake Lively as Hal Jordan’s love interest Carol Ferris and Mart Strong as Sinestro.
Filming is set to begin in March in New Orleans and will be directed by Martin Campbell. Campbell has confirmed that characters from the Green Lantern Corps including Kilowog and Abin Sur are included, though there is no news on casting for those roles as of yet.
