From the studio who brought us the remake of the classic 60’s spy spoof Get Smart comes word that another 60’s TV spy favorite, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., will be coming to theaters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has hired Max Borenstein to write the screenplay and David Dobkin (The Wedding Crashers) is attached to direct the project. Dobkin will also produce the film with John Davis and Jeff Kleeman.
The TV series began in 1964 at the height of James Bond’s early popularity when espionage was all the rage and ran until 1968. It followed American spy Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and former Soviet spy Illya Kurykin (David McCallum) as special agents for the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) as they fought the evil forces of the Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.). In 1983, both Vaughn and McCallum reprised their roles in a made for TV movie The Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E.
