Sony has confirmed that Columbia Pictures is moving forward on the film adaptation of the third of Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon books, “The Lost Symbol”. According to Variety, Columbia has hired Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) to pen the script.
Neither Tom Hanks or Ron Howard are committed to return yet, but it is expected that Hanks will return for a third time as Langdon. Brian Grazer and John Calley at Imagine have signed on to produce.
The latest story in the franchise follows Langdon to Washington, D.C., where he is called in to uncover the secrets of the Freemasons after his beloved mentor is kidnapped.
Just like its predecessors, the novel The Lost Symbol is a huge best seller. It sold over a million copies on the first day of its release. Despite Angels and Demons $486 million box office take fell short of The Da Vinci Code’s $758 million worldwide takings, Sony believes there is still plenty of life left in Dan Brown’s Symbologist.
